Inspired by neoclassical design, this unique lamp recalls the atmosphere of a bygone era – full of sophistication, refinement, and mood lighting accompanying festive gatherings.\n\u003cbr\u003eHISTORICAL ORIGINS\n\u003cbr\u003eThe Hurricane Britannia model draws inspiration from a pair of British candlesticks (circa 1780–1790) in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Before Argand oil lamps were introduced in the late 18th century, homes were primarily lit by candles. Due to the high cost of wax, multi-candlestick illuminations were reserved for special occasions – balls, dinners, and celebrations. Candles were placed in hanging, wall-mounted, or standing candlesticks, such as chandeliers, girandoles, or candelabras. In the mid-18th century, richly carved Rococo designs appeared, followed by more subdued Neoclassical forms – this trend became the inspiration for the Hurricane Britannia project, made of linden wood, glass, and gilded bronze.
