This masterpiece boasts a stunning marble finish. Inspired by Roman artistry, it features fluted patterns and serpentine handles that symbolize guardianship over sacred spaces. Though it may have been used for funerary purposes, its true function remains a mystery. Regardless, this exquisite piece, dating back to the Antonine period, brings the mysticism and artistry of ancient times to a modern space.

A HISTORICAL EXPERIENCE The Antonine Vase draws its inspiration from the marble vase with handles formed of entwined serpents (late 2nd Century A.D.) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The Roman original is recognized as one of the finest and best-preserved examples of this type of vessel with S-shaped reliefs carved across the body. The serpents, with mouths seemingly biting the rim, were associated with funerals as well as chthonic or underworld powers and were regarded by the Greeks and Romans as guardians of hallowed places, homes, and tombs. However, due to the lack of a funerary inscription, it is impossible to determine whether this vase was originally intended as an ash urn or if it was created for purely decorative use. Our reinterpretation has been made with a marble finish.
