THE MET x Eichholtz Moon Jar Lamp
Moon Jar Table Lamp – The Met x Eichholtz
We present the Moon Jar table lamp by Eichholtz – a modern masterpiece inspired by a Korean moon jar from the second half of the 18th century, dating back to the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910).
This contemporary interpretation of the unique object from The Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection in New York captures its subtle form and poetic character. The lamp is finished in a sand tone with brushed brass details, topped with a handmade linen blend lampshade, imported from the Netherlands. This harmonious blend of history and modern design creates a striking accent in any interior, emitting a warm, atmospheric light.
HISTORY AND INSPIRATION
The Moon Jar lamp draws inspiration from an 18th-century Korean porcelain vessel with a soft, rounded form and milky white color, known as a moon jar. These vessels, created from two separately molded halves joined by hand, were extremely popular in the 18th and 19th centuries during the Joseon Dynasty.
The piece that inspired the lamp bears subtle traces of the firing process – its surface in some places took on a delicate peach hue, which only emphasizes its natural beauty. The Moon Jar table lamp reflects this character through a refined sand-tone finish, brushed brass details, and a handmade linen lampshade.
The Moon Jar lamp is a perfect blend of craftsmanship and Far Eastern culture – ideal for minimalist, eclectic, or modern interiors where history and subtle elegance are valued.
The lampshade was handmade in the Netherlands.
